Hello Families,

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all the new families and returning families to Elonera in 2018.

We also welcome back our Director and Possum Group Teacher, Gina Ravensdale, Jo Holland (Kangaroo & Koala Educator), Lynne Tyssen (Kangaroo & Possum educator) and Teachers Kaitlyn Wallis (Kangaroo Group), and Ellie Joyce (Koala Group Teacher).

Thank you to those of you who attended the first working bee for the year – it was a very hot day and we really appreciated everything that got done. It helps us to keep our grounds beautiful for all our children to enjoy. Those of you that gave even an hour of your time made a huge difference and every effort counted. As always, a big thank you to Michelle, our Head of Grounds, for prioritising the work and directing the helpers!

We achieved a huge amount over last year and the summer holidays thanks to a phenomenal fundraising effort in 2017. A new mosaic at the entrance, thanks to the mosaic-guru Chelsey, green tunnels, new sails, a water pump for the children and not to mention the fantastic updated flooring and painting in the main kinder room. As a community kinder everything we contribute as parents directly benefits our children.

This year, the committee and staff aim to continue to build on this work which will see new social events, fund raising opportunities, further grounds renovations and improved communications to families. We know life is already busy but we do hope you are able to get involved in some (or all) of the events on offer as it is a great way for you and your children to make new friends and feel connected to your community.

We have already had a fantastic start to our events calendar with the Elonera Welcome Picnic, which was brilliantly organised by our Events and Fundraising team. Thank you to Alex and Jess and those who helped out on the night and contributed to the prize pool. I hope you enjoyed meeting up with old friends and new. It was very well attended and I really enjoyed meeting some new faces. A big mention goes to Boatrocker Brewery and Distillery for their generous contribution of a case of Boatrocker Pale Ale. If you haven’t had a chance to go before now, find time to visit! It’s right on our doorstep in Braeside serving fantastic beers, ales and spirits.

The next exciting event is Elonera’s annual movie night on 23 March. The teachers volunteer their time to supervise our children (and their siblings!) with a movie in the main kinder building while the parents enjoy a social evening in the grounds – bring your own drinks and nibbles.

I hope to see you all there!
